What Norell doesn't reduce
Where our data stops, so you can decide with the full picture.
TDS and minerals (by design)
Norell does not reduce Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and that is intentional. Calcium, magnesium and other naturally occurring minerals pass through the filter, so your water tastes like water and keeps the minerals your body is used to, unlike distilled or reverse osmosis water, which strip them out along with the contaminants. If you test with a TDS meter, the number will barely move. That is expected. TDS measures minerals, not contaminants.
Arsenic
Norell does not reduce arsenic. Arsenic is a dissolved metal ion, not a particle, so carbon and ultrafiltration let it pass, and this cartridge is not certified for it. Reducing arsenic takes a dedicated iron-based adsorption media or a reverse osmosis membrane, certified under NSF/ANSI 53 or 58.
Nitrates
Norell does not reduce nitrates. Nitrates are small, dissolved and negatively charged, so carbon and ultrafiltration let them through. Reducing them takes ion exchange resin, reverse osmosis or distillation. If you are on well water near farmland, test for nitrates before choosing any filter.
Bacteria, viruses and cysts
Norell does not reduce bacteria, viruses or cysts. It is built for municipally treated water, which is already disinfected, and it has not been certified for microbiological reduction. Removing bacteria, viruses or cysts from water takes UV disinfection, reverse osmosis, or a water distiller.
